How I fix the daily Frictions

September 26, 2024

I have such an attitude of “if you don’t like it change it”. If there is a problem, I won’t let it be a problem for long, I will figure out how to fix it. That being said when I have a friction in my day I try my best to eliminate it and this is how I do it.

  1. What is the friction/problem?

  2. Why is that the problem?

  3. What would fix the problem?

  4. What action can I take to fix the problem?

  5. Are there any extra steps to make this action easier?

Here’s an example. I was getting very overstimulated when getting home from our morning activity, we walk in the door and I had to put stuff away, feed Ryden, feed me, maybe feed Oaklyn and put Oaklyn down for a nap and then I usually call Josh somewhere in there to catch up on the morning. I just had so many things I had to do at once and I was getting short with Ryden. This happened for week or two straight and then I realized it was a problem, so here is how I fixed it using my steps.

  • The problem is I am overstimulated when we get home

  • I think this is a problem because I’m hungry

  • Eating before I get home would help

  • I can make myself a pb&j and bring it with me and eat it there or on the way home

  • I can make myself 4 pb&js at the beginning of the week when I make Ryden’s snacks for the week so I can just grab and go on the day of

I tried this today and it totally worked. I ate my sandwich on the way home from a playgroup so when we walked in the door I didn’t need to worry about myself, I was able to meet the kids needs and then once Oaklyn was asleep and Ryden was eating lunch I was able to take the time to prepare and eat my lunch.

I do this for most issues in my day, I find just by talking them out with Josh I can fix it but sometimes I wish I just had a worksheet so I could work through it on my own, so I made one.
